Lesson 126
Today's lesson was mostly about the Elegie piece and focusing on fingerings & bowing revisions.
The other thing being coccyx issues and how practise has been severely affected by it. In fact, there's a sneaking suspicion that this contributed to the lack of focus all month.
I'm not sure how it's happened but I'm guessing prolonged sitting on a hard bench, a recent addition to the living room. It's now used as a table and a very good table it is too.
Lesson 127
We warm up with Minor scales, 4 notes in a bow and a quick discourse on pop music's modal system vs classical scales and natural minors before we tackled the Elegie fast runs. As with all speed runs, start slow and practise the upcoming shifts.
I was able to reach 132 semiquavers, a lot faster than I thought I could but still far from the ideal which is 138 semiquavers per beat.
The aim is to make sure the notes are clear, crisp and not lethargic, especially the leading notes which are slightly accented.
Elegie notes
Bars 37, 38 - scales C / F minor and its relative major scales
Get as many notes in a bow ( remember Bunting )
For all scales, 4th positions are *never* played on C, G & D strings
Practise scales until the universal fingering comes naturally
Practise slow, deliberate vibrato at thumb position for the climax bars
