Today's lesson was a little different from the norm. Instead of the usual practical theory, we looked through the cello parts of Dvorak Symphony 9 op. 95 where I will be playing next week at the LCOM for their open rehearsals session.
Despite being quite nervous and intimidated by the prospects of it all, the very notion of attending seems exciting.
I've been listening to the piece almost daily including different versions on YouTube and with the help of
MuseScore, learning through the cello bits and where the score fits in with the whole thing. I've tried playing along with a recording but found myself lost on many occasions.
During the search of amateur orchestras in the Yorkshire regions, I happened upon the Penine Music Festival - a rather curious gathering of musicians playing music intensely over a course of a week. Here's the flyer I found:
The Baroque Chamber Music course really peaked my interes and if I wasn't attending another festival during the same weekend of this one, I'd have definitely gone for it! Maybe next year :}
We ended the lesson on orchestral mute, either leather or rubber. Deryn advises against the ebony mute which can make the bridge warp. I bought an ebony one eons ago with no idea on how to use it but a rubber one has been ordered and should hopefully arrive before the open rehearsal next week!
