Lesson 63 - Cello duets, 2 Popper pieces

2013-09-26 07:52:01

Today's lesson came and went really fast as we went through 2 Popper pieces that I will be playing as part of a duet for this Saturday's get-together. It seems my search for finding cello partners is getting fulfilled. In fact, it seems there are quite a few of Deryn's pupils that are rather enthusiastic about the prospect of playing together so this may very well be the beginnings of the Deryn Cullen Ensemble :) I certainly hope so!

We spoke briefly of her plans to maybe rent a venue once a month just for the ensemble gathering where we split the session into reading and playing. There were also talks of possibly doing a Cello Camp type thing which I'm really excited about but that would be some time away. Of course there also implications of Deryn moving further up north to the countryside which is not so good news for me at all.

I'm both really excited and happy for her but at the same time, upset and unsure of my "cello future" as I cannot imagine having another teacher that is as dedicated, professional, creative, fun and unorthodox in her teaching methods; all aspects I find extremely vital as an educator to motivate and challenge me.

We shall see how this melody plays out. I'm going to take one step at a time and practise as well as I can for Saturday.

Learning the cello as an adult started as a dare but has now turned into an ongoing love affair; I hope to one day make her sing to her full potential. In the meantime, all spare time and moments are dedicated to this wonderful instrument as I am unable to think about anything else, much to the dismay of my other half :}

This is an attempt to remember the classes I have taken so that I don't forget.
