I missed out on an entire month of lessons due to a horrible flu so to say I was rusty was an understatement; new areas of the body ached during practise sessions which discouraged techniques and technical exercises. I spent a greater part of any time devoted to practising on the Allemande of the Bach Suite 1. I needed to know where all the notes were before going into bowing and string crosses so did plenty of plucking and acquainted the left hand with note familiarity before putting bow to strings. Of course intonation with the bow was terrible so the left hand then needed readjustments in balancing issues. I find that plucking notes seem more in tune than when the bow is involved; my fingers shift up sharper subconsciously when I bow as if to mimic my right hand!
Today we spent a considerable amount of time doing technical exercises from Feuillard which was sorely needed. I have yet to discipline myself truly to do this regularly and it shows in my playing.
Meanwhile, here's an attempt at the Allemande. Pardon the obvious issues :} I'm hoping I can compare this to a later recording in a few months and see if there are any improvements made at all!
Learning the cello as an adult started as a dare but has now turned into an ongoing love affair; I hope to one day make her sing to her full potential. In the meantime, all spare time and moments are dedicated to this wonderful instrument as I am unable to think about anything else, much to the dismay of my other half :}
This is an attempt to remember the classes I have taken so that I don't forget.
